WHAT IS OLD MCDONALD’S FARM, INC. (OMF)?

OMF is a nonprofit, charitable organization. We provide hands-on, structured, educational experiences for children using livestock, agriculture, gardens and natural resources. OMF is located on a 68-acre farm that is a safe, beautiful, educational site for children. We have indoor facilities as well. Additionally, we have 28+ animals which include horses, cow, goats, sheep, pig, geese, chickens, ducks, rabbits, cats and our farm dog, Caledonia. WHO CAN ATTEND THE SUMMER PROGRAM AT OMF?

OMF is offering six regular Summer Program sessions. These six sessions are offered to children who will be in the 2nd through 6th grade during the 2006/2007 school year. For Summer Program alumni students who are 14 or older, two Student Camp Counselor (SCC) positions per summer session are available. Additionally, two Student Summer Helper (SSH) positions are available also and students must be alumni and 12+ years old. SCC & SSH and their parents will need to fill out and sign a contract that is on our web site.

WHEN DO THE SUMMER PROGRAMS RUN?

Each regular Summer Program session runs Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. sharp to 3:25 daily. Supervision will not be available past 3:25 unless we are transporting your child. Session I: June 26-30, Session II: July 10-14, Session III: July 17-21, Session IV(4): July 31-August 4, Session V(5): August 14-18 and Session VI(6): August 21-25. A maximum of 20 students will be allowed with a minimum of 15 children required to run each Summer Program session. Pre-registration is required.

WHAT IS THE COST?

The cost of each regular Summer Program is $163 per student. For two or more children from the same family, we do offer a 10% discount on the second or more children. With each paid registration of a friend (as a result of your recommendation), receive $5 off your Summer Program cost. Please inform us of this when you send your registration. We will try to offer scholarship help to those that qualify. Classes fill up quickly so reserve your space today! The cost to be a Student Summer Helper is $125 per week. The cost for a Student Camp Counselor is $55 per summer session.

WHAT SHOULD THE STUDENT BRING?

Dress in appropriate “farm” attire (boots or sturdy shoes, coats, long pants, etc.) and for the weather. No sandals, open-toed or open-heeled shoes allowed. Corbett is generally colder than in town. Each student is to bring well-fitted, work gloves and a well-fitted, riding or bicycle helmet. Due to insurance restrictions, all students must wear long pants, sturdy shoes, gloves and helmets in order to ride horses. Please help us to ensure the success of your student by equipping him/her appropriately. Please make prior arrangements if you need help acquiring any of these items. Students may bring shorts to change into later. Students also need to bring their own healthy, cold lunch every day.

NEED HELP WITH TRANSPORTATION?

Carpooling with friends is welcomed and encouraged. Find directions at www.oldmcdonaldsfarm.org/directions.html We do have a bus to transport a limited number of students. Transportation is on a ‘first come-first served’ basis. An 8:20 am pick-up and a 4:05 pm drop-off will be offered behind Point West Credit Union at 718 NE 12th Ave. (across I-84 from the Lloyd Center). Please be on time, the bus cannot wait more than five minutes. There is an additional charge of $33 per person per week for transportation. **Please Note: Transportation will not be provided Monday mornings and Friday afternoons. See the farm Monday mornings and then plan to join us for the student’s oral presentation and celebration, potluck parties on Fridays of each Summer Program session from 2:00-3:30.

  • 09:00 Good Morning Gab (Build communication and listening skills and discuss plans of the day.)
  • 09:30 Morning Chores (While doing daily chores, nurturing, respect, health care and feeding needs of animals will be taught. Children will participate in cooperative learning activities as they do chores.)
  • 10:00 With Four Rotating Small Groups:
  • Hands-On Horse Time (Children will learn skills in how to appropriately groom a horse, how to safely mount and dismount and lastly children will be taught the basics of how to ride a horse. Children will gain a sense of accomplishment through working with horses.)

    Get to Know Your Garden (Children will gain skills in composting, planting, weeding, watering and harvesting a garden. Lifecycles and interconnectedness within nature will be introduced.)

    Good Morning Games (Children will learn farm skills such as roping a stationary (model) cow, sitting on our antique tractor and tossing horse shoes. This will encourage imagination and physical activity and foster cooperative play.)

    Grab Bag Group (Children will have an opportunity to clean, practice their parent presentations in a small group and/or work on a farm project.)

  • 12:00 Soup’s On Lunch Time (Children will be instructed in hygiene and manners as well as, how to recycle and compost the waste from their lunches. Students need to bring their own healthy, cold lunch every day.)
  • 12:30 Pick-A-Pet (Children pick a favorite animal to spend quality time. They will learn to bond with and nurture an animal while appropriately handling it.)
  • 12:45 Time for Project Particulars (With the help of OMF staff, children will develop and create a special project. Given instruction, children will brainstorm, research and design an inquiry-based learning project that they will present orally on the last day of the session. Friends and family are invited.)
  • 02:00 Cool Cooperative Games (Children will be taught techniques in cooperative learning, problem solving and will develop group cohesion while they stretch their legs and have fun.)
  • 03:00 High’s & Low’s (Wrap-up and evaluation of the day through group discussion. The focus will be on celebrating personal successes and giving constructive ideas for improvement along with guidance on giving and receiving compliments.)

Students may not participate without this completed and signed Student Permission Slip. It is to be filled out and mailed along with payment by the Parent/Guardian of each student.

Please copy this form for your records and send the original Student Permission Slip with original signature along with registration payment and the transportation fee (if needed) to OMF, PO Box 326, Corbett, OR 97019. If you do not receive a post card confirmation from OMF within two weeks after you sent payment please call to confirm as there is likely a problem.
