The J.P. Morgan Package - The Day Visit Program

The J.P. Morgan package of the Day Visit Program was designed to teach academic skills in the areas of: language arts (reading, writing and speaking), history (of our area and of farming practices), science (inquiry based learning, observation and data collection, environmental science, life cycles, animal husbandry, biology, and agriculture and garden studies), math (calculation, measurement and estimation), geography (location, regional information such as climate and terrain), and life skills (cooperative learning, conflict resolution, respect, safety, kindness and positive values).

The J. P. Morgan package is recommended for mature 1st graders and older. There is much to learn and much to do and so upper elementary students, Jr. High and even High School students have enjoyed and learned from this class. It is approximately three hours in length. There is a lunchtime opportunity during the J.P. package where students can enjoy the sack lunch that they bring with them and also can learn to compost and recycle their waste. To run the J.P. Morgan package, the minimum number of students required is 15.

Program Dates:
Program start times are generally between 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. and can be scheduled usually on Tuesdays through Saturdays. If these days are not an option then we can try to schedule on a Monday. We have taught this class during the “off season” for hearty folks but usually we are the busiest April through October.

Program Cost:
The cost is $6.00 per child. There is no charge for accompanying adults who will be teaching and leading children in small groups. Please no more than two adults are necessary per small group of five-eight students. Past that, we then charge $6.00 per person. To enhance your visit to the farm, adults will be asked to join students in activities and model good, “can do” attitudes and behaviors.

Who can attend?
The J.P. Morgan package was designed for children who are mature first graders or older students in upper elementary, Jr. High or even High School age.

What can I expect?
Upon arrival you can expect an Orientation, Safety rules, be introduced to the Farm Activity Books, explore eight Learning Centers and then have a short time to see other farm animals in their own farm habitat. Then all can rest and enjoy a lunchtime opportunity. Lastly, we will discuss what the students learned during Wrap-Up Talk Time. Students will also receive an age appropriate Farm Activity Book to take home with them for further study. We have five difficulty levels of the Farm Activity Books from non-reader on up to High School age, so students will be engaged and challenged.

What to bring?
Dress in appropriate “farm” attire (tied on sturdy shoes or boots, coats, long pants, etc.) and for the weather. No sandals, open-toed or open-heeled shoes allowed. Corbett is generally colder than in town so please always bring a jacket. Each student and adult attending needs to bring a healthy, ready-made, sack lunch to enjoy while here at the farm. And please do not forget to bring an OMF student permission slip per student.

Need help with transportation?
Generally, most classes come in busses or carpooling with friends is welcomed and encouraged. .Click Here for directions.

Are scholarships available?
We will try to offer scholarships to children in need if we can. Please call the office at 503/695-3316 to make prior, special arrangements.
